Call for Program
Fellow roleplayers around the world! The Solmukohta 2012 convention is approaching. We hope you are as excited as we are! Now is the time to fill up the conference with content. We are calling on you to submit and share your best ideas with fellow roleplayers of the community.
The theme is design
In support of Helsinki's status of World Design Capital 2012 the theme for Solmukohta 2012 is design. What does design mean in live action and other forms of roleplaying? What is game design and how does it overlap with - and relate to - other forms of design? Why do we design and who do we design for? We want to explore the core of game design and talk about its different forms, trends, possibilities and future. Should design always aim for something extraordinary and exquisite, or is it possible to dress up in our old elf ears and let the wind blow through our dusty capes in a design fantasy setting? What qualifies as design?
How to contribute
Talks and Panels
Come give us a lecture about your latest game design project, academic article or crazy idea. Did you run a larp with an awesome set of props, lighting or sound equipment? Are you trying out new techniques with character creation or game mechanics? Successfully? Do you have other interesting thoughts about larping or gaming in general? What would you like to share with the community? Feel free to recruit your friends to share their thoughts on the subject and let a lecture evolve into a panel of design talk!
The duration of a talk or panel may be from 25 minutes to up to 160 minutes. We will provide the needed audiovisual equipment for your use.
Sometimes it is better to communicate your thoughts on design by getting your hands dirty with a workshop. Instead of talking, why not explore your methods through action? Drama techniques, handicrafts, game writing sessions or music making - anything goes. When you contribute your idea, please tell us workshop's materialistic needs or/and costs.
The recommended workshop length is between 60 and 170 minutes.
All those crazy ideas and design scenarios usually need some testing, right? What would be a better place to give your game a test run than in Solmukohta 2012, where you'll find an army of volunteers for your convenience! If you don't have a design production of your own to run, you can always ask to give someone else's game a go. Vice versa, someone else might be interested in running your game.
A game at Solmukohta 2012 can be a fully-fledged half-day larp, an hour long freeform role-playing scenario, an experimental experience about garbage cans - or whatever else you can come up with. In Solmukohta you are also welcome to run your more traditional table top roleplaying games. Remember that flashing effects and incredible props are not everything, it’s the idea that matters!
In addition to games and larps for the main event, we are also looking for larps to be played during A Week in Finland. If interested, we will hook you up with our proficient AWiF-team, or contact them yourself: email@example.com
It is not all about design talk! We want parties, and we want activities! If you have your own small party idea or have an urgent need to hold a yoga session in tight pants, you are very welcome to organize events outside the scope of the categories listed above.
