Guide to Restaurants in Helsinki

Please note that we have two categories, good and cheap ones. Cheap ones are good for their price level.

Good ones:


Kitchen is open until 3 am! Good Finnish food like liver and reindeer. And also good pizzas and steaks. Please remember, that singing is not allowed in this restaurant. You will be thrown out if you try, so please don't.


Kynsilaukka restaurant Garlic is for garlic lovers and for others too. One spice, food, service and an intimate atmosphere. The menu is of high quality, prices vary between 5,60 - 23,65 €.


Restaurant Šašlik cherishes the tradition of Russian cuisine. Šašlik's à la carte includes the classics of the Russian cuisine such as Borsch-soup, Blinis, Pickled Russian cucumber with honey and sour cream and Zakuska-appetizer selection. Prices for main courses vary between 21-35 € except bear which is 42-98 €.


Great cafeteria near Community House Naamio & Höyhen. Known from its huge cinnamon rolls, salmon soup and house coffee.

Tintin Tango

Great breakfast cafe at Töölö district that serves breakfast all day long. There's also rentable sauna and laundry machines at Tintti.


Farang is a restaurant which serves unique and fresh flavors from Southeast Asia. Was voted for best restaurant in Finland in 2011.


Gaijin offers unique flavors by combining traditional Japanese and Korean dishes with dishes from the North of China, in a modern way. Restaurant is run by same guys who run Farang

Cafe Jugend

Aschan Cafe Jugend is a nice cafe located at the old Jugend style bank

Cheap ones:


Hiisi is a restaurant that uses local and organic food made in traditional Finnish way = Lot's of meat.


Morrison's serves American style burgers.


Vegan restaurant at Arabia district. Student restaurant, around 6 € for others. Won't accept foreign studentcards.

UniCafe Kaivopiha

Student restaurant at the heart of Helsinki. Food is eatable, and with international student card only 2,70 €


The best vegetarian hamburgers at Helsinki. One restaurant at Vaasankatu 6 and second one at Pieni Roobertinkatu 2-4. Last one is quite near the community house.


A cozy Gastropub serving tasty food and drink, with a relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen is open for as long as the bar is. A wide range of beers to choose from. Keskuskatu 4

Forum downstairs

If you can't agree with your friends where to go, go here. You can get steak, kebab, pizza, McDonalds-hamburgers, oriental food etc. from here. So everyone can get what they want.


Good but quite cheap pasta place in the middle of Helsinki.

New Bamboo Center

Chinese restaurant, that is not famous of it's traditional Chinese cuisine, but hot hot delicious curry dishes. Annakatu 29


A small pizza place close to the city center. Service is fast and Päivän jättipizza ("Daily giant pizza") with drink is less than 10 €
